ACTIVE LEARNING: ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP

The commission for this work was awarded to Val Woodward, a consultant, who is involved with Take Part Birmingham, and latterly she has worked closely with the Chamberlain Forum to deliver the outputs agreed.

In the first phase some work was planned on exploring and establishing what citizenship means for people with disability.

Due to the very tight timescales imposed by delays at national and regional levels, it was not possible to provide the depth of engagement originally intended. The workstream has therefore concentrated on bringing together a small number of groups and organisations who work with, or support people with disability. A small reference group is in the process of being established to drive this forward and an action plan recommending future activity under this programme has been produced.

The title of this workstream will change in 2009/2010, at the request of CDF, to Equality and Empowerment. This is to avoid confusion with the Take Part Pathfinder programme which takes Active Learning for Active Citizenship as its working title.

The newly named Equality and Empowerment workstream will, in 09/10, in addition to work around disability, also include empowerment activity around rural, BME, women and speakers corner (lobbying) as activity areas.
